Visualizing Data with Other Tools

Enterprise-only feature

This article describes functionality that is only available if you are on an Enterprise plan

If you're not a fan of Looker's visualization tools, here are some other options for building reports on top of your data in Daasity.

Looker Studio

Looker Studio — formerly known as Google Data Studio — is a popular data visualization tool Google released almost a decade ago. Even though it has "Looker" in the name, the visualization capabilities in Looker Studio are very different from those in Looker.

Looker Studio is the easiest alternative tool to get up and running because you can actually connect to your Looker data model from within Looker Studio. This is a huge benefit because you won't need to rebuild the visualization model from the ground up; You just choose the Looker data source, connect to our shared Looker instance, and then get to building reports.

The video below shows you how to get up and running:

Another benefit of using Looker Studio is it comes with other native data connectors like Google Analytics 4, Google Ads, and Google Sheets. So you can include data modeled through Daasity alongside totally independent data sources in the same report.

To dig deeper into Looker Studio, there are great tutorials like this one that will give you a head start.

Connecting to Looker Studio

In order to successfully connect Looker Studio to Looker, you must be logged into Google with the same email address you use to log into looker.com.

Power BI

Looker has a feature where — similar to Looker Studio — you can connect your Looker data models as a data source. Again, this is a huge benefit because you can use the same data model you were already using in Looker without having to build it from the ground up.

These Looker docs will help you get set up:

Please contact support@daasity.com if you need help getting this connection established.

Google Sheets

If you want to simply get Looker data refreshed directly in a Google Sheet, you can use Looker's Connected Sheets feature. The connection process is similar to connecting to Looker Studio. The following links will help you get started:

Connecting to Google Sheets

In order to successfully connect Google Sheets to Looker, you must be logged into Google with the same email address you use to log into looker.com.

Other platforms

Ultimately, you can use any visualization tool that is able to connect to a Snowflake database. However, if you don't use a tool that has the ability to connect to the Looker data model, you will need to recreate the visualization model that we're using in Looker from the ground up. This is absolutely doable, but is not trivial. If you are currently using Looker with Daasity and want to rebuild your data models in another platform that can't connect to Looker, please contact support@daasity.com. We will try to get you as much information as possible about our data model setup so that you can recreate it in the platform of your choice.
